Corrective jaw surgery, also known as Orthognathic surgery, helps to improve facial balance, restore normal chewing, speaking, and breathing, and boosts confidence in your appearance and smile.
Most patients return to their normal activities within 2–4 weeks after surgery, depending on the specific case. Swelling is normal and improves after 2–3 weeks, with the first week being the most difficult.
Initially, you should have cold or lukewarm liquids like juices, milk, and soup. You will then progress to soft foods such as yogurt, mashed potatoes, and scrambled eggs. After 6–8 weeks, you can gradually return to a normal diet.
You should call the clinic immediately if you experience heavy bleeding, a high fever, or an unusual discharge or bad smell from the wound.
Many TMJ cases can be treated with conservative, non-surgical options first. These treatments include medications, warm or cold compresses, a soft food diet, jaw exercises, and mouth guards
